Walden

Walden University is a for-profit university that offers online degree programs. Student Defense along with co-counsel Relman Colfax PLLC filed a class action lawsuit in federal court alleging that Walden University engaged in fraudulent business practices, costing former students more than $28 million in overpaid tuition (Carroll v. Walden). 

Student Defense submitted the following requests under the Freedom of Information Act seeking documents regarding Walden's Program Participation Agreements (“PPA”). 


FOIA Requests


Walden PPAs Between July 14, 2017 to December 20, 2022

Seeking: Student Defense submitted a FOIA request asking for: 

  1. All PPAs—full, provisional, or otherwise—executed by or on behalf of Walden University that were in effect at any time between July 14, 2017 and the date of this Request.
  2. The current Eligibility and Certification Approval Report (“ECAR”) for Walden University.

  3. Any ECAR for Walden University dated between August 14, 2018 and present.

Documents

The Department initially failed to produce any documents, as required by law. Student Defense requested that the Department provide responsive information. On May 11, 2023, the Department produced a supplemental response. The responsive documents are available here

 
 
 

Walden PPAs Between January 1, 2010 to July 16, 2021

Seeking: Student Defense submitted a FOIA request asking for: 

  1. All PPAs—full, provisional, or otherwise—executed by or on behalf of Walden University that were in effect at any time between January 1, 2010 and the date of this Request.
  2. The current Eligibility and Certification Approval Report (“ECAR”) for Walden University.

  3. Any ECAR for Walden University dated between January 1, 2010 and present.
